Archive samples to an external storage device

This information applies only to Ion Reporter™ Server.

You can archive samples from an Ion Reporter™ Server to an external storage device to increase disk space.

Note: Samples that are archived can later be restored to an Ion Reporter™ Server that uses of the same version, or an earlier version of Ion Reporter™ Software from which the samples were archived.

Available options for external storage devices include the following.

IMPORTANT! Before you start this procedure, ensure that all users are signed off. Ion Reporter™ Server is not available to users during the archive process.

  • You must have an external storage device that is mounted to your Ion Reporter™ Server to archive samples to the device.

  • If you have a new Ion Reporter™ Server or upgrade from a previous version, you must specify a storage location for archiving samples and analyses in Ion Reporter™ Server.

IMPORTANT! Change archivalMountPath=/tmp/ to archivalMountPath=/storage IP address/ in the ionreportermanager/server/server.properties file, then restart the Tomcat server. To check the data that you archived, go to the storage location of the archived data, which is set up in /share/apps/IR/ionreportermanager/server/server.properties file as archivalMountPath. If you have questions about the Tomcat server, contact your Field Support Engineer or Field Bioinformatics Support representative.

  • You can only archive samples if no processes are active on the server. For example, if an analysis is running, or new sample uploads are in progress.
  1. In the Samples tab, in the Overview screen, select the sample or samples to be archived.
  2. Complete one of the following actions.

    Option

    Action

    Archive multiple samples

In the Selected Samples section, click Actions > Archive > ..

    Archive a single sample

In the Detailssection, click Actions > Archive > . .
  3. Indicate whether the archives should be retained on the server or deleted in the Confirm Batch Archive dialog box. This option is not available for Ion Reporter™ Software 5.12 or earlier.
    • To delete the samples after the archival process is complete, select the option do you want to delete the data from path post archive?.
    • To retain the samples after the archival process is complete, deselect the option do you want to delete the data from path post archive?.
  4. Click Yes in the Confirm Batch Archive dialog box to begin the archive process for the selected samples. The Archival Manager screen shows the progress of the archive.
  5. (Optional) To stop the archive process, click Abort.

To prevent a loss of data, if you archive multiple analysis you can only abort the archive process if none of the archival procesess are complete. For example, if there are three archives that are in progress, and two archives are completed, but the third item is in progress, the abort will not occur.

When the archival process is successful, there is a message in the Confirm Batch Archive dialog box to indicate that the process is complete. The samples are listed in the Archives screen. A successful archive has a Status of Restored. The table shows the name, type, size, status and any error message for the restoration.
